The 71st annual Bossier City Lions Club Jamboree is set for Friday, Aug. 30, at M.D. Ray Field at Airline Stadium.
Gates open at 5 p.m. Parkway faces Airline at 5:45, Plain Dealing takes on Bossier at 7:15 and Haughton plays Benton at 8:45.
Jamboree queens will be introduced and dance teams will perform.
The first Lions Club Jamboree was held on Aug. 27, 1954. It has been held every year since then except the Covid-19 year of 2020. There have also been a couple cut short by severe weather.
“The funds generated from the Jamboree are used for several Lions Club charitable causes,” Lions Club Secretary Frank Russell wrote in an e-mail. “In addition to money given to each of the parish high schools, their football teams, and through college scholarships, money from this event also goes toward support for vision screening of young children and eyeglasses for those in need.
“The Bossier City Lions Club also supports the Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation and the Louisiana Children’s camp for those with special needs. During the week of the Jamboree, the football coaches are treated to fish fry and an assistant coach is honored at that dinner. There is also a Jamboree Queens Luncheon which is held the Thursday before the Jamboree to honor the 6 Jamboree Queens and their parents.”
