High school football: Bossier can’t overcome big early deficit in 1-4A opener

The North DeSoto Griffins were too much for the Bossier Bearkats in a District 1-4A opener Friday night at Bossier’s Memorial Stadium.

The Griffins led 35-0 with about 6 minutes to play and went on to win 35-21.

The Bearkats made things interesting in the fourth quarter, taking advantage of fumble recoveries. Kevin Bonapart and Reginald Burns both returned fumbles for touchdowns. Quinton Smith ran 24 yards for a touchdown after the Bearkats recovered one.

Bossier dropped to 2-2 overall. The Bearkats face Woodlawn, a 30-27 winner over Northwood, in a district game Thursday night at Independence Stadium.

North DeSoto (3-1) hosts Benton (4-0) in a big 1-4A game Friday night.

The Bearkats struggled on offense against the Griffins. They managed just 80 yards on the ground and 72 in the air, thanks in large part to a 60-yard reception by Xavier Venious.

Kalan Green and Smith led Bossier with 27 and 25 yards rushing, respectively.

North DeSoto, meanwhile, got 157 yards passing from Jaden Procell and 153 rushing from Delmonte Hall, one of the area’s top running backs.

According to stats kept by Pesky Hill of The (Shreveport) Times, the Griffins rolled up 413 yards total offense.
