The Bossier Bearkats returned to the win column with a 34-12 District 1-4A victory over the Southwood Cowboys Thursday night at Independence Stadium.
Bossier, which had lost two in a row, improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in district. Southwood dropped to 0-5 and 0-2.
The Bearkats, who played without injured star quarterback Montrevell Lewis for the third straight week, kept the ball mostly on the ground. They attempted just four passes.
“We felt like we had to control the clock to keep their QB off the field,” Bossier Head Coach Gary Smith said.
Bossier rolled up 183 yards rushing. Sophomore Demareya Bates led the Bearkats with 102 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown. He has rushed for 309 yards on the season.
Freshman Braylyn Williams had 50 yards on 10 carries and scored a touchdown. He has 270 yards on the season.
Freshman Shante Wells completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Javeon Mitchell.
Senior Mikyle Armstrong also played quarterback. He rushed for 29 yards on 11 carries and scored a touchdown.
