Senior Keldrick Carper scored five touchdowns as the Plain Dealing Lions broke into the win column Friday night, routing the Lakeside Warriors 60-26 in Plain Dealing.
Carper, a Texas A&M commit, had seven catches for 206 yards and four touchdowns. He also scored on a 28-yard run.
Demeiko Ford rushed for 112 yards on seven carries. Shavolyea McKinney also had a good night, gaining 87 yards on eight carries. Derreon Washington had a 35-yard run.
Matt Sullivan completed nine of 14 passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns.
Plain Dealing (1-1) faces St. Mary’s (1-1) this Friday at Northwestern State’s Turpin Stadium. The Tigers fell to North Caddo 20-6 Thursday night.
“We were able to run the ball a little bit and throw the ball a little bit,” Plain Dealing head coach James Thurman said. “The offensive line is starting to get a little better, but we’re just trying to really work on being able to block different fronts and things like that.
“A lot of our rushing came on out-athleting Lakeside. We’ve got a couple of good athletes who made some good plays here and there. I’m excited about the win and we were able to put some points up. At the same time we have some work to do.”
The only regret Thurman had about the game was scoring a couple of late TDs that pushed up the score. He and Lakeside coach Jason Martin are good friends.
“I hated scoring that much,” he said. “In hindsight I wish I could’ve not put those points on the board. I got my good friend across the field over there. I shouldn’t have done that.”
