High school football: Parkway rolls past Homer

The Parkway Panthers made it a happy homecoming with a 48-6 victory over the Homer Pelicans on Friday night at Bobby Marlow Field at Preston Crownover Stadium.

Parkway evened its record at 4-4. Homer, a Class 1A school, dropped to 2-6.

The Panthers led only 7-0 after the first quarter, but they scored three touchdowns in the second and had a comfortable 28-7 lead at the half. One of the TDs came on a 70-yard kickoff return by Kaybien Smallwood.

Eric “E.J.” Williams rushed for 102 yards on just 10 carries and scored TDs on runs of 17 and six yards.

Amani Larry completed seven of 12 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns. The TDs went to Chase Turner (35 yards) and Kobe Gill (7 yards).

Turner also had a 50-yard catch.

Kendall Gill gained 86 yards, including a 61-yard run, on just three carries. The Panthers finished with 259 yards on the ground.

Brandon Nelson returned an interception three yards for a TD in the second half. Zy Dooley scored the final TD on a 12-yard run.

Twenty-eight Panthers were credited with at least one assisted tackle. David Bennett led the way with five solos and six assists. Rayshion Cook had six solos and two assists.

Codie Bickel had four solos and two assists. Two of his solos were sacks.

Marcus Drayden Jr. returned an interception 62 yards on the final play of the first half.

Louis Espino made six of seven PATs.

Parkway, which is 2-2 in 1-5A, visits Haughton on Friday. The Bucs (6-2, 3-1) defeated Southwood 49-8 Friday night.
