High school girls basketball: Airline downs Byrd in the District 1-5A opener

The Airline Lady Vikings opened District 1-5A play with a 58-30 rout of the Byrd Lady Jackets on Tuesday night at Airline.

The Lady Vikings were in control from the outset and led 41-9 at the half.

Tia Lowe led 10 Airline players who scored with 15 points. Zahria Lloyd added 11, including two 3-pointers.

The Lady Vikings improved to 6-7 overall with their third consecutive victory.

The news wasn’t as good for the other four Bossier Parish teams in action Tuesday.

The Haughton Lady Bucs and Parkway Lady Panthers both dropped District 1-5A openers. Haughton (5-6) fell to Evangel Christian 64-23 at Evangel. Parkway (2-9) turned in a good defensive performance in a 43-30 loss to perennial Class 5A power Southwood at Parkway.

In a District 1-1A opener, Plain Dealing (4-5) dropped a tough 57-56 decision to Homer in Plain Dealing. In a non-district contest in Monroe, Bossier fell to Ouachita Parish 63-45.

Bossier (6-9) got 13 points from Destiny Thomas and 10 from Brianna West against Ouachita.
