The girls high school basketball regular season came to an end Friday night.
In District 1-5A games involving parish teams, Benton defeated Haughton 90-48 at Benton, Parkway downed Byrd 58-25 at Parkway and Airline fell to Captain Shreve 73-58 at Airline.
Captain Shreve (21-6, 13-1) won the district championship by one game over Benton (24-5, 12-2). The Lady Gators took the title for the fourth straight year.
Shreve and Benton split their district games. A road loss to Natchitoches Central prevented the Lady Tigers from sharing the title.
Benton, however, will likely be the top seed in the Class 5A playoffs. The Lady Tigers are No. 1 in the power rankings that determine playoff seedings, according to louisianasportsline.com. Defending state champion Shreve is No. 3.
Official pairings will be announced Monday.
In a District 1-1A game, Plain Dealing defeated Calvary Baptist 58-44 at home.
At Benton, Jada Anderson scored 25 points to lead Benton against Haughton. Qua Chambers added 18. Markayla Clark scored 12 and Alisa Harris had 10.
Benton hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter. Chambers sank two of those and scored 12 points as the Lady Tigers raced to a 29-12 lead.
Anderson scored 10 in the second quarter and Benton led 56-28 at the half.
Haughton’s Taralyn Sweeney completed an outstanding season with 22 points. Takaiyah Sweeney scored 18 and DeShounia Davis chipped in with nine.
Haughton closed its season 13-14 overall and 4-10 in district.
At Parkway, Mikaylah Williams and Sh’Diamond McKnight led the Lady Panthers with 23 and 22 points, respectively.
Parkway got off to a slow start offensively but played good defense and led 20-10 at the half. Williams knocked down two 3-pointers in the second quarter.
McKnight scored nine points in the third quarter and Parkway extended the lead to 20. She had 18 in the second half.
Parkway (22-8, 8-6) is No. 11 in the 5A rankings and will likely host a first-round playoff game.
Byrd (13-17, 1-13) is headed to the Division I playoffs.
At Airline, Kayla Hampton scored 25 points to lead Airline against Shreve.
Kiarya Ellis tallied 18. Kori Rice and Anwaar Shihadeh scored 11 each.
Airline (15-17, 3-11) is No. 32 in the 5A rankings. The top 32 in the final official rankings make the playoffs. The Lady Vikings could visit Benton in the first round.
At Plain Dealing, Laterrica Stewart and Dana Wainwright scored 21 and 18 points, respectively, to lead the Lady Lions.
Plain Dealing (14-14, 5-4) is No. 18 in the 1A rankings.
