High school girls basketball: Bossier holds off Airline; Benton wins

The Bossier Lady Kats and Benton Lady Tigers posted girls basketball victories Tuesday night.

Bossier edged Airline 46-45 at Bossier. Benton downed Parkway 61-36 at Parkway.

Haughton dropped a close 55-51 decision to North DeSoto in Stonewall. Plain Dealing fell to Class 5A Captain Shreve 51-29 in Plain Dealing.

At Bossier, the Lady Kats had control of the contest for most of the game. They led by as many as 13 points in the second half.

But the Lady Vikings stormed back and took a 43-42 lead with about one minute left on a jumper by Ladayjah Means.

Bossier regained the lead on two Chloe Walker field goals with 42.8 seconds left. After Airline missed two free throws, Draunatika Thomas sank one of two to give the Lady Kats a 45-43 lead.

The Lady Vikings (2-1) missed a shot to tie and Thomas made one of two free throws. Freshman Keiarra McCoy drove inside for a basket to cut Bossier’s lead to one with 8.3 seconds left.

The Lady Kats (4-3) missed two free throws with 6.3 seconds left, but a one-handed 20-footer from the right wing by Traciona Russell bounced off the rim.

Russell played a big role in Airline’s comeback with five fourth-quarter points, including a 3-pointer.

Destiny Thomas led eight Bossier players who scored with 11 points. McCoy led nine Lady Vikings who scored with 10.

At Parkway, Emily Ward scored 22 points to lead Benton (2-1). Dana Wainwright added 12 and Qua Chambers 11.

Jasmine Nickolson-Edie topped Parkway (0-2) with 10 points. Niaya Fant chipped in with nine.
