High school girls basketball: Haughton advances to title game of Jack Clayton Invitational


The Haughton Lady Bucs advanced to the championship game of the Jack Clayton Invitational with a 65-42 rout of the North DeSoto Lady Griffins Friday night at Haughton.

The Lady Bucs (3-4) will face Captain Shreve (5-2) for the title at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Gators defeated Minden 64-49 in the other semifinal.

Mayghan Myers led Haughton with 23 points. She scored 13 in the first half as the Lady Bucs rolled to a 31-18 lead.

Myers added eight more in the third quarter and Haughton extended the lead to 46-30. Champagne Dennis poured in 17 points, including eight in the fourth quarter. Keanna Barber added 10.

Five Captain Shreve players scored in double figures in the victory over Minden. Victoria Hart and Adrian Stevenson led the Lady Gators with 14 points each. Nene Johnson added 13.

Sha Whiting paced Minden with 17 points.

Ruston and Lakeside advanced to Saturday’s 10 a.m. consolation finals. The Lady Bearcats defeated West Ouachita 48-22 and the Lady Warriors edged Northwood 32-30.

In the Bossier Lady Kats Invitational, Plain Dealing topped Green Oaks 55-42, Parkway lost to Huntington and Bossier fell to Southwood 55-43. The event concludes today with four games. Plain Dealing faces Fair Park at noon, Parkway takes on Green Oaks at 1:15, Peabody plays Huntington at 2:30 and Bossier faces Booker T. Washington at 3:45.

Elsewhere, Benton dropped a 54-44 decision to Dutchtown in the St. Michael the Archangel tourament in Baton Rouge. Airline fell to Baton Rouge Central 51-31 in the same event.
