High school girls basketball: Parkway clinches share of 1-5A title; Haughton, Benton, Bossier, Plain Dealing, PCA win

The Parkway Lady Panthers clinched at least a share of the District 1-5A championship with a 61-10 victory over Evangel Christian Tuesday night at Parkway.

Elsewhere in 1-5A, Haughton downed Captain Shreve 63-50 at HaughtonBenton defeated Airline 61-44 at Benton and Huntington defeated Byrd 61-32.

Parkway improved to 25-4 overall and 7-0 in district. The Lady Panthers can win their fourth straight undefeated district title with a victory over Captain Shreve Friday at home.

Haughton (26-4, 6-1)  and Huntington (18-10, 6-1) are tied for second. They face off Friday night at Huntington.

In District 1-4A, Bossier defeated Woodlawn 41-30 at Woodlawn. In District 1-1A, Plain Dealing routed Lincoln Prep 68-23 at Plain Dealing.

In a non-district game, Providence Classical Academy closed its season with a 45-42 victory over North Webster at home. PCA finished a successful first season in the LHSAA 15-3.

At Parkway, the Lady Panthers rolled to a 41-2 halftime lead against the winless Lady Eagles.

Dakota Howard led seven Parkway players who scored with 26 points. Mahogany Johnson added nine.

At Haughton, the Lady Bucs led by 18 with just under six minutes left in the third quarter. The Lady Gators rallied and got within 52-46 in the fourth.

But Haughton weathered the storm. Shaniya Perkins got a big offensive rebound off a missed 3-pointer and the Lady Bucs went on a 9-2 run.

Perkins led Haughton with 25 points. She was 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Perkins also helped the Lady Bucs get off to a great start. She scored 12 in the first quarter and Haughton led 21-8.

Skylar Branch scored six of her 11 points in the second quarter. The Lady Bucs led 35-20 at the half.

Perkins scored eight in the third and Haughton led 50-36 going into the fourth. The Lady Gators went on a 10-2 run before Haughton regained control.

Bella Hammond contributed to the victory with 13 points, including two 3-pointers.

Shiloh Brokenberry and Madesyn Bedford led Shreve (23-7, 4-3) with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

At Benton, three Lady Tigers scored in double figures. Addison Morris had a game-high 17 points. Kryshna Bostic scored 14 and Bella Wiese had 13, including three 3-pointers.

Benton led 19-18 at the half. The Lady Tigers took control in the third quarter. Wiese hit two from behind the arc and scored 10 points. The Lady Tigers scored 29 points and led 48-32 going into the fourth.

Karliyah Woodard and Amari Mosley led Airline with 10 points each.

Benton (20-12, 2-5) closes the regular season Friday against Evangel at home. Airline (17-7, 2-5) hosts Natchitoches Central.

At Woodlawn, Adrianna Gooden and Zamarion Carter led Bossier with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Gooden scored all of her points in the second half as the Lady Kats rallied from an 18-12 deficit. Orianna Edwards and Tobiria Washington scored seven each.

Bossier (9-18, 2-4) closes its season Friday against North DeSoto at home.

At Plain Dealing, Jakayla Douglas poured in 27 points to lead the Lady Lions. Brianna Newton scored 20. Eighth-grader Janiya Douglas added 19.

Jakayla scored 10 in the first quarter as Plain Dealing rolled to a 20-5 lead. The Lady Lions led 38-9 at the half.

Plain Dealing also picked up a win Monday night, defeating North Caddo 50-30 on the road.

Jakayla Douglas led the team with 20 points. Newton was 8-of-11 from the free throw line and scored 14. Janiya Douglas had nine.

Plain Dealing (15-13, 4-2) closes the regular season at Ringgold Friday.
