The Parkway Lady Panthers won a matchup of two-time defending state champions Wednesday night, defeating Wossman 53-49 on the first day of the Battle on the Hardwood Classic at Parkway.
In other games in the Battle, Plain Dealing defeated Delhi 50-37, Benton fell to Lakeview 56-53, Bossier defeated Magnolia School of Excellence 49-21, Natchitoches Central defeated Ruston 56-20, BTW defeated Evangel Christian 55-12 and Captain Shreve defeated Mansfield 48-26.
Dakota Howard led two-time defending Division I state champion Parkway (2-0) with 29 points. Zara Baker added nine, Savannah Wilson seven and Kenadie Loche six.
Loche hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter helping the Lady Panthers take a 19-12 lead.
Howard scored nine of Parkway’s second-quarter points. The Lady Panthers led 30-23 at the half.
Parkway extended the lead to 41-31 after three quarters. Howard scored 10 in the fourth as the Lady Panthers held the Lady Wildcats off. Wossman hit three of its six 3-pointers in the fourth.
Anyra Wilson and Ashanti Smith led two-time non-select Division II champion Wossman (1-1) with 17 and 14 points, respectively.
Jakayla Douglas scored 25 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, to lead Plain Dealing (2-0). Brianna Newton and Sanaa Lyles added eight each.
The Lady Lions led 21-14 at the half and 34-20 after three quarters.
Kryshna Bostic and Taylor Brown led Benton (1-1) with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Bossier improved to 1-1 with its victory.
