High school girls basketball: Parkway perfect in District 1-5A again

The Parkway Lady Panthers claimed their fourth straight undefeated District 1-5A championship with a 66-32 rout of the Captain Shreve Lady Gators Friday night at Parkway.

Parkway closed the regular season 26-4 overall and 8-0 in district. The Lady Panthers dominated 1-5A, winning the eight games by an average of 34.5 points.

The Lady Panthers will take a 54-game district winning streak into next season.

Of course, the two-time defending non-select Division I state champions have plenty left to accomplish this season. Parkway will likely go into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed.

Official playoff pairings will be announced Monday. It will be awhile before Parkway plays again. The top four seeds receive first-round byes.

Elsewhere in 1-5A, the Haughton Lady Bucs fell to the Huntington Lady Raiders 56-46 at Huntington. Huntington (19-10, 7-1) finished second and Haughton (26-5, 6-2) third.

According to GeauxPreps.com, Haughton is No. 4 in the non-select Division I power rankings. Huntington is No. 4 in select Division I.

Benton closed the regular season with a 53-7 victory over Evangel Christian at Benton. The Lady Tigers (21-12. 3-5) are No. 21 in the non-select Division I rankings and will be on the road in first round.

Airline (17-8, 3-6) fell to Natchitoches Central 59-44 in Natchitoches. The Lady Vikings are also headed to the playoffs. Airline was No. 16 in the power rankings. The number 5-16 teams in the final rankings host first-round games.

Plain Dealing fell to Ringgold 61-34 in a District 1-1A game at Ringgold. The Lady Lions (15-14, 4-3) are No. 14 in the non-select Division IV rankings.

Bossier likely won’t be going to the playoffs, but the Lady Kats closed the season with a victory, defeating North DeSoto 39-31 at Bossier. Bossier finished 10-18.

At Parkway, Dakota Howard led the Lady Panthers with 26 points. Jasmyne Hendrix and Savannah Wilson scored 10 each.

The score was tied at two then Parkway went on a 19-1 run. The Lady Panthers led 23-3 early in the second quarter. 

Parkway led 26-6 at the half and 54-21 after scoring 28 in the third quarter.

At Huntington, Haughton couldn’t quite overcome a slow start. The Lady Bucs trailed 13-7 after the first quarter and 26-20 at the half. 

Haughton was still within six late in the third but Huntington banked in a long 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Lady Bucs were unable to rally in the fourth.

Skylar Branch led Haughton with 22 points. Shaniya Perkins added 14.

At Natchitoches Central, Nia Williams and Addison McDowell led Airline with 12 points each. Williams hit three 3-pointers. Amari Mosley added eight points

At Bossier, Adrianna Gooden led the Lady Kats with 16 points. Zamarion Carter completed an outstanding season with 12
