The Parkway Lady Panthers Plain Dealing Lady Lions and Airline Lady Vikings opened their seasons with victories Tuesday night while the Haughton Lady Bucs improved to 2-0.
Parkway defeated Arcadia 51-38 in a battle of defending state champions at Parkway. The Lady Panthers won the last two non-select Division I titles. Arcadia won the non-select Division IV title last season.
Plain Dealing defeated Bossier 58-49 at Plain Dealing. Haughton downed Homer 57-33 at Homer. Airline defeated West Monroe 53-29 at Airline.
At Parkway, Dakota Howard, who signed with Southeastern Louisiana last week, led the Lady Panthers with 23 points. Savannah Wilson added 12.
Howard scored 10 in the first quarter as the Lady Panthers raced to a 17-8 lead. She tallied nine more in the second and Parkway extended the lead to 35-20 at the half.
The Lady Panthers led 45-29 going into the fourth.
DeAsia Alexander led Arcadia with 12 points.
Parkway faces two-time defending non-select Division II champion Wossman on the first day of the Battle of the Hardwood Classic Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Parkway. (The full schedule is in a separate story on bossierpress.com.).
At Plain Dealing, Jakayla Douglas poured in 28 points to lead the Lady Lions. Brianna Newton added 15, including two 3-pointers. She was 7-of-10 from the free throw line.
Zamarion Carter hit four 3-pointers and led Bossier with 29 points.
Carter made two 3s in the first quarter and the Lady Kats led 10-9. She sank her last two from behind the arc in the second and Bossier led 26-24 at the half.
Plain Dealing rallied in the third and led 39-37 going into the fourth. Douglas scored nine in the final period as the Lady Lions pulled away.
Douglas’ points were spread out. She had six in the first, seven in the second and six in the third.
Plain Dealing plays Delhi Wednesday at 5 in Parkway’s main gym in the Battle of the Hardwood Classic.
Bossier plays Magnolia School of Excellence in the Battle Wednesday at 8 in Parkway’s auxiliary gym.
