The Parkway Lady Panthers cruised into the quarterfinals of the Class 5A playoffs with a 72-35 second-round victory over Zachary on Monday night in Zachary.
Parkway (31-2), the No. 2 seed, will host No. 10 Northshore (23-9) for a spot in the state tournament. The game will likely be Thursday night.
Northshore defeated No. 26 Captain Shreve, the defending state champion, 49-43 at Shreve.
The other two parish teams in the playoffs lost to No. 1 seeds.
In Class 5A, the No. 16 seed Airline Lady Vikings kept it close for most of the game before falling to Walker 61-40 at Walker.
In Class 1A, the No. 16 Plain Dealing Lady Lions lost to Northwood-Lena 75-35 at Northwood.
At Zachary, Parkway won its 26th in a row. The Lady Panthers led 36-15 at the half,
Mikaylah Williams led Parkway with 20 points.
Chloe Larry added 16, Ty’lissa Henderson 15 and Savannah Wilson 14.
This is the second straight year Parkway has advanced to the quarterfinals. The Lady Panthers fell to Benton 49-46 last year.
Zachary, the No. 18 seed, finished 20-13.
At Walker, Airline made the Lady Wildcats work for the victory.
Walker (31-1) led 14-13 after the first quarter. The Lady Vikings trailed by only 28-22 at the half.
The Lady Wildcats extended the lead to 41-30 after three quarters. It was still an 11-point game with three minutes left.
Airline closed its season 23-13. The Lady Vikings made it to the second round for the first time in 11 years.
Three seniors played their final high school game — Kayla Hampton, Kori Rice and Kaleigh Brown.
At Northwood, Plain Dealing finished 11-18 with the loss. Northwood improved to 31-1.
