High school girls basketball: Plain Dealing, Haughton win; Benton falls in OT

The Plain Dealing Lady Lions improved to 3-0 with a 47-21 victory over Woodlawn on Day 3 of the Battle on the Hardwood Classic Friday at Parkway.

The Benton Lady Tigers came up just short in their final game in the Classic, falling to Warren Easton 69-65 in overtime.

Plain Dealing’s Jakayla Douglas continued her strong start to the season with 28 points. Brianna Newton added 12.

The Classic concludes Saturday with 11 games. The Lady Lions face Southwood at 4 p.m in the auxiliary gym.

Taylor Brown led Benton (2-2) with 21 points. Jannah Carter had 11 points and five rebounds.

Lainey Lafitte came close to having a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Bella Wiese added eight points.

Warren Easton, which has long been a Class 4A power, improved to 2-1.

Elsewhere, Haughton improved to 3-0 with a 38-36 victory over Quitman in the Saline tournament.

Shaniya Perkins and Skylar Branch led the Lady Bucs with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Haughton led 29-28 after three quarters. Perkins scored six in the fourth.

Quitman’s Bethany Leach, a Centenary College signee, scored a game-high 17. She hit four 3-pointers. The Lady Wolverines dropped to 4-4.
