High school girls basketball: Ward’s 35 points lift Benton to double OT win; Bossier, Haughton post victories


Sophomore Emily Ward scored a season-high 35 points to lead the Benton Lady Tigers to a 59-57 double overtime victory over West Monroe in girls high school basketball action Tuesday night at Benton

In other games, Bossier downed Plain Dealing 40-28 at Plain Dealing, Haughton defeated Northwood 62-56 at Northwood and Airline fell to Minden 59-41 at Minden.

At Benton, West Monroe rallied from a five-point deficit with about two minutes left to send the game into overtime tied at 47.

Ward hit a shot with 4 seconds left to send it into a second overtime. She scored nine points in the overtime periods.

Qua Chambers scored six of her seven points in the fourth quarter and overtimes. Claire Ambrose had six big points in the fourth quarter. Malorie Gill scored six in the game and Dana Wainwright five.

Benton improved to 5-3.

At Plain Dealing, Destiny Thomas scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Bossier (6-5) to the victory. Navia Johnson had six points to go with 10 rebounds.

Chloe Walker and Brianna West scored five each.

Plain Dealing fell to 4-3. The Lady Lions were coming off a 53-46 victory over Fair Park on Saturday in the Bossier Lady Kats Invitational.

At Northwood, Mayghan Myers poured in 23 points in Haughton’s victory. Champagne Dennis added 16. Mary Gladney chipped in with nine. Keanna Barber had seven and Taylor Brokenberry six.

At Minden, Airline dropped to 3-5 with the loss.
