High school girls track and field: Benton, Parkway finish 2-3 in season opening Benton meet

The Benton Lady Tigers and Parkway Lady Panthers finished second and third, respectively, in the Shamocus Patton Benton Tiger Relays on Thursday.

Benton scored 111.5 points and Parkway had 107. North DeSoto won with 138.

Benton junior Jamie Willis and junior Isabelle Russell picked up right where they left off last year.

Willis was a triple winner, and Russell was a double winner.

Willis won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.35 seconds, .10 ahead of North DeSoto’s Jocelyn Seford. She won the 300 hurdles in 47.43 seconds, finishing 4.02 seconds ahead of Seford.

Willis finished third in the 100 and sixth in the 300 in the Class 5A state meet last year.

Willis also took the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 2.5 inches. Haughton freshman Dakota Howard was second with a 15-8.

Russell won the 1,600 in 5:44.60. Parkway sophomore Cheyenne Olson finished second in 5:55.32.

Russell and Olson also finished 1-2 in the 3,200. Russell ran a 12:42.68 and Olson ran a 12:53.40.

Russell was the runner-up in the 1,600 in the 5A state meet last year.

Parkway’s Jillian Walton and Kyla Williams finished 1-2 in the 100 and 200.

Walton ran a 12.71 in the 100 and a 25.45 in the 200. Williams ran a 12.83 in the 100 and a 25.95 in the 200.

The two also teamed with Kennedi Lee and Maya Jackson to win the 4X100 relay in 49.95. Kaiden Taylor, Lee, Walton and Jackson took the 4X200 in 1:50.02.

Airline’s Arriana Bell won the high jump with a leap of 5-0.

Parkway’s Jackson captured the triple jump with a 32-1.5. Haughton’s Tykiarre Abney was second with a 31-2.

Benton’s Sadie Hamby won the discus with a 108-5.5 and was second in the shot put with a 29-2.5 and javelin with a 95-5. Her winning throw in the discus was more than 17 feet farther than that of runner-up Kendall Odums of North DeSoto.

Haughton’s Brooklynn Bockhaus won the javelin with a 102-3.5. After competing in the meet, Bockhaus hit a home run in a softball victory over Airline.

Haughton’s Lauren Tippet finished second in the 400 in 1:04.14. Mansfield’s T’La Dewitt won in 1:03.33.

The Benton foursome of Lizzy Autrey, Havyn Puckett, Allie Maranto and Erykah Pepp finished second in the 4X100 in 1:53.70. 

Autrey, Jenevieve Willis, Jamie Willis and Pepp took second in the 4X400 in 4:36.34.

Third-place finishers from parish schools were Airline’s Jaycie Wallace (100, 200), Airline’s Kyla Daux (1,600), Haughton’s Kinsley Brotherton (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Airline’s Janiyah Boudreaux (high jump), Parkway’s Jackson (long jump), Haughton’s Shenae Penn (triple jump) and Haughton’s Ah’Naiyah Green (shot put).
