High school girls track and field: Benton takes 1-5A title

The Benton Lady Tigers won the District 1-5A Championship Friday at Benton’s Tiger Stadium.

Benton scored 122 points. Captain Shreve was second with 114, Parkway third with 88 and Airline fourth with 77.5.

The meet was suspended Thursday night because of inclement weather with five running events remaining. All field events had been completed.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for the Region I-5A meet Wednesday at Northwestern State.

Airline’s Jaycie Wallace was the only double winner from a parish team. She took the 100 in 12.01 seconds and the 200 in 25.34. Captain Shreve’s Kendalyn Duncan was second in the 100 in 12.24. Her teammate Sarina Miller was second in the 200 in 25.99,

Wallace also was a member of Airline’s winning 4X100 relay team along with Karliyah Woodward, Janiyah Boudreaux and Symauri Butler. They ran a 48.71. Captain Shreve was second in 48.75.

Parkway’s Sofia Bright and Lauren Taylor finished 1-2 in the 800 in 2:30.36 and 2:30.65, respectively. 

Benton’s Ryleigh McCoy won the pole vault with a vault of 9 feet, 6 inches. Haughton’s Julianna Boyett was second with a 9-0.

Parkway’s Zaniyah Carter won the shot put with a 34-0 and finished second in the discus with a 110-0. Carter’s teammate Savannah Wilson won the discus with a 115-5. Benton’s Tameara Player was second in the shot put with a 33-8.

Haughton’s Brooke Caporossi captured the javelin with a 95-8.5. Natchitoches Central’s Deanna Fowler was second with a 94-1.

The Benton foursome of Dominique Coore, Tatiana Saulter, Cylah Grigsby and Kyla Daux won the 4X400 relay in 4:07.18. Captain Shreve was second in 4:07.99.

Daux also finished second in the 100 hurdles in 50.28, 300 hurdles in 46.71 and triple jump with a 33-11.5. Shreve’s Leah Bryant won the 100 hurdles in 15.09 and the 300 in 44.97. Natchitoches Central’s Tatum Kay took the triple jump with a 34-9.5.

Airline’s Jayda Chrisley finished second in the 400 in 59.62 and long jump with a 17-1.5. Huntington’s Livvy West took the 400 in 57.75 and Shreve’s MaKenzie Marshall won the long jump with a 17-10.75.

Parkway’s Lauren Taylor was second in the 1,600 with 5:35.71. Byrd’s Anna Lake Watts won in 5:31.69.

Benton’s Claire Allen finished second in the 3,200 in12:22.37. Watts won in 11:59.16. Allen was also third in the 1,600 in 5:41.39.

The Benton foursome of Bayleigh Ware, Ellie Allen, Aaliyah Gonzalez and Coore took second in the 4X800 relay in 10:35.77. Byrd won in 10:05.91.

Airline’s Shelby Ledet was second in the high jump with a 5-0. Shreve’s Bryant won with a 5-2. Third-place finisher Keda Holland of Haughton also cleared 5-0.

Other third-place finishers in individual events from parish schools were Airline’s Boudreaux (100), Benton’s Gonzalez (800), Parkway’s Ember Pierce (3,200), Parkway’s Caitlynn Johnson (triple jump), Benton’s Isabelle Joyner (pole vault) and Parkway’s Addison White (javelin).

The Airline foursome of Woodard, Leah Menard, Skyah Lewis and Boudreaux was third in the 4X200 relay.
