High school golf: Benton wins District 1-II championship for fifth straight year


The Benton Tigers won the District 1, Division II golf championship for the fifth straight year Monday at The Golf Club at Huntington Park.

The Tigers shot a 322. Caddo Magnet was runner-up with 370. Benton, Magnet, Neville and Minden qualified for the Region I-II tournament Tuesday, April 24, at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria.

Benton has won the Distrct 1-II championship every year since the LHSAA required district tournaments in 2014.

Benton senior Hayden White, an LSU signee, and freshman Ryan Steed were co-medalists. Both shot 4-over-76.

Brodie Romero shot an 84, Braeden Be11 an 86 and Madden Davis an 89.

Airline finished fourth in the District 1-I tournament at Calvert Crossing Golf Club in Calhoun.

The Vikings shot a 350 and qualified for the Region I-I tournament on April 24 at Cypress Bend in Many. Daniel Dial led Airline with an 86.

Byrd won with a 316 and West Monroe was second with a 330. West Monroe’s Jerry Kirkland, who shot a 76, was the individual medalist.
