High school golf: Benton’s Ryan low scorer in Southern Trace match; White ties for second


Benton’s Colton Ryan had the low score in a high school golf match Monday at Southern Trace.

Ryan shot a 2-under 70, one stroke better than teammate Hayden White and Byrd’s Marshall Laborde and Charlie Flynn.

Benton, which has won five straight Division II state championships, finished third to Byrd’s Gold and Purple teams. Byrd has won three straight Division I state titles.

Byrd’s Gold team won with an even-par 288. Its Purple team had a 306. Luke Atchison and Reed Sikes of the Gold team both shot 73.

Benton’s Gold team of Ryan, White, Phillip Tran and Madden Davis shot a 316. Tran shot an 87 and Davis an 88.

Airline’s White and Blue teams finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with scores of 321 and 352.

Daniel Dial led the Vikings’ White team with a 76, one stroke ahead of Jacob Hill. Carter Jurkovich shot an 82 and Matt Jordan an 86. Zachary Johnson led the Blue team with an 81.

Parkway finished seventh. Bryan Day led the Panthers with an 81.
