High school golf: Benton’s White wins Northwest Louisiana Championship tournament


Benton junior Hayden White won the Northwest Louisiana High School Championship tournament Saturday at The Club Huntington Park.

White shot a 2-over-par 74 in the final round to go with a 1-under 71 on Friday. He won by one stroke over Natchitoches Central’s Cole Kendrick (74-72—146).

Benton’s Colton Ryan finished third at 151 (77-74).

Airline put five players in the top 10 — Jacob Hill (fifth, 79-73—152), Zachary Johnson (tie 7th, 80-77—157), Carter Jurkovich (8th, 76-82—158), Landon Rodie (ninth, 83-77—160) and Daniel Dial (10th, 81-80—161).

Parkway’s Richard Blair (78-85—163) finished 11th.

Airline finished runner-up to three-time defending Division I state champion Byrd, which used nine players on its Gold team over the two days. Five-time defending Division II state champion Benton was third.

The District 1-I tournament is Monday, April 17, at Calvert Crossing Golf Club in Calhoun. The Division II tournament is April 17 at Huntington Park.
