The Airline Vikings and Benton Tigers posted victories in the Airline Winter Classic boys soccer tournament Friday night at Freedom Fields.
Airline defeated North DeSoto 4-1, and Benton topped Union Parish 2-0. The Vikings are 2-0 in Pool D going into the Saturday’s final day of competition. Benton is 1-1 in Pool B.
Gin Pau scored two goals in Airline’s victory, including one from 40 yards out. Jacob Vines had a goal and an assist. Nathan Otis scored a goal.
In other varsity games Friday night, Byrd downed West Ouachita 4-0, West Monroe defeated Minden 8-0, Ouachita Parish defeated Northwood 5-1 and Parkway fell to Caddo Magnet 4-0.
The tournament resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday. Semifinals are at 5:30 p.m. with the championship game scheduled for 7:15.
In the Southwood girls tournament at Cargill Park, Haughton topped Bossier 9-1. Bossier then came back and defeated Southwood 1-0.
Parker McClung scored three goals in Haughton’s victory. Ciara White and Genet Leist scored two each. Paige Ramsey and Shelby Watson had one goal each.
Ademaris Holquin scored Bossier’s goals in both games.
Haughton and Bossier both play two more games in the tournament Saturday.
In the Loyola tournament, Parkway defeated St. Frederick 2-1 late Thursday. The Lady Panthers play New Iberia at 10:40 a.m. Saturday at Messmer Stadium.
