The Benton Tigers fell to the Bonnabel Bruins 3-0 in the second round of the Division II boys soccer playoffs Wednesday at Joe Yenni Stadium in Metairie.
Benton, the No. 10 seed, closed its season 11-9-6. Bonnabel (16-6-3), the No. 7 seed, will face No. 2 seed St. Thomas More in the quarterfinals.
Benton had another good season under head coach Bryan George. After starting the season 1-6-1, the Tigers lost only two more games in the regular season.
They defeated L.W. Higgins 7-2 in the first round of the playoffs.
Benton shared the District 1 championship with No. 11 seed Caddo Magnet, which advanced to the quarterfinals with a penalty kicks shootout victory over No. 6 East Jefferson.
Benton’s loss leaves Bossier as the only parish team left in the boys playoffs.
The No. 8 seed Bearkats (20-2-1), who received a first-round bye, host No. 9 New Orleans Military & Maritime at 5 p.m. Thursday in a Division III second-round match.
New Orleans Military & Maritime (16-5-2) defeated No. 24 Morgan City 2-0 in the first round.
The Benton girls are also still alive. The No. 8 seed Lady Tigers (14-10-3) travel to Lafayette on Friday for a 5 o’clock Division II quarterfinal match against No. 1 St. Thomas More (17-4-5), the two-time defending state champion.
Benton will be making the first quarterfinal appearance in girls soccer in school history.
