High school soccer: Benton boys roll into second round of Division II playoffs; more first-round matches set for Friday


The No. 10 seed Benton Tigers rolled into the second round of the Division II boys soccer playoffs, defeating No. 23 L.W. Higgins 7-2 on a cold afternoon at Bossier’s Memorial Stadium.

Landon Burch scored three goals and was named Man of the Match by coaches.

Jaime Garcia had two goals and one assist. Logan Smith assisted on three goals and scored one.

Ben Poole scored one goal, and Nolan Anderson had one assist.

District 1 co-champion Benton (11-8-6) will travel to Kenner to take on No. 7 Bonnabel (15-6-3) in the second round. The Bruins received a first-round bye,

More first-round matches are set for Friday.

Parkway plays a doubleheader at Bossier.

The No. 15 seed Lady Panthers (13-6-5) face No. 18 Baton Rouge (10-10-6) at 4 p.m. in a Division I girls match. The No. 15 seed Panthers (14-7-4) play No. 18 Baton Rouge Tara (9-5-1) at 6:30 in a Division II boys match.

Haughton (10-9-2), the No. 15 seed, hosts No. 18 Franklin Parish (6-8-3) in a Division II girls match at 5:30 at Tinsley Park.

In a Division II boys match, No. 22 Haughton (5-11) faces No. 11 Caddo Magnet (9-7-3) at 6:30 at Lee Hedges Stadium.

District 1 runner-up Benton (13-10-3), the No. 8 seed, received a first-round bye in the Division II girls playoffs.

The Lady Tigers will host the winner between No. 9 Terrebonne (17-9) and No. 24 South Terrebonne (6-13-1) in the second round next week.

Bossier received a first-round bye in the Division III boys playoffs. The Bearkats (20-2-1) will host the winner of a match between No. 9 New Orleans Military & Maritime (15-5-2) and No. 24 Morgan City (8-11-2) in the second round Thursday.
