High school soccer: Benton girls, Bossier boys aim for quarterfinal berths

The Benton Lady Tigers and Bossier Bearkats play will try to earn quarterfinal berths in the state playoffs Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Benton (19-3-3), the No. 3 seed, hosts No. 14 West Monroe (17-6-3) Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a Division I girls second-round match at Airline Stadium.

Bossier (16-6-2), the No. 3 seed, hosts No. 14 Parkview Baptist (12-6-2) in a Division III boys second-round match at Memorial Stadium.

Benton defeated No. 30 Woodlawn-Baton Rouge 6-0 in the first round. West Monroe defeated No. 19 Ponchatoula 2-0.

Benton and West Monroe met in the season opener on Nov. 12 at West Monroe with the Lady Tigers winning 2-0.

This is only Benton’s third year in the LHSAA’s top division. The Lady Tigers lost to No. 16 Fontainebleau 1-0 on the road in the first round last year. 

Benton moved up from Division II in 2023. The Lady Tigers also lost in the first round on the road that year.

Benton is looking for its first quarterfinal appearance since making it in Division II in 2022. The Lady Tigers also reached the quarterfinals in 2020 and 2021.

West Monroe tied No. 18 Barbe 1-1 in regulation last year but lost on penalty kicks.

Bossier is trying to reach at least the quarterfinals for the sixth straight year.

The Bearkats reached the semifinals in 2022 and the championship match in 2023. Last year, the lost to eventual champion The Willow School 1-0 in the semifinals.

Parkview Baptist lost to No. 2 Vandebilt Catholic 2-0 in the quarterfinals last year.
