High school soccer: Haughton girls advance in Division II playoffs

The Haughton Lady Bucs advanced to the second round of the Division II girls soccer playoffs with a 2-1 victory over Franklin Parish at Tinsley Park.

The match came down to penalty kicks. The teams played to a 1-1 tie in regulation with Madeline Milton scoring Haughton’s goal in the second half.

After a scoreless overtime, Lowery Lain and Jordan Fick converted penalty kicks for the Lady Bucs. Haughton goalie Miah Vanmeter saved Franklin Parish’s final PK to seal the victory.

Haughton (11-9-2), the No. 15 seed, will travel to Monroe to play No. 2 Neville (17-4-2) in the second round. The Lady Tigers received a first-round bye.

Franklin Parish closed its season 6-9-3.

The news wasn’t as good for other parish teams in the first round.

In a Division I girls match at Bossier’s Memorial Stadium, No. 15 seed Parkway fell to No. 18 Baton Rouge 2-0.

Parkway finished 13-7-5 after moving up from Division II. Baton Rouge improved to 11-10-6.

In a Division II boys match at Bossier, No. 15 Parkway fell to No. 18 Baton Rouge Tara 3-1.

Kimanee Gipson scores the Panthers’ goal. Carlos Maya, Perez Molina and Deleon Castillo all had goals for Tara.

Parkway closed its season 14-8-4. Tara improved to 10-5-1.

In another Division II boys match, No. 22 Haughton fell to No. 11 Caddo Magnet 5-0 at Lee Hedges Stadium.

Magnet, the District 1 co-champion, improved to 10-7-3. Haughton finished 5-12.
