High school softball: Airline, Benton keep winning streaks alive


The Airline Lady Vikings and Benton Lady Tigers kept winning streaks alive Thursday with home victories.

Airline defeated Holy Savior Menard, last year’s Division III runner-up, 4-1. Benton routed D’Arbonne Woods 17-2 in three innings.

At Airline, Raelin Chaffin pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks.

Caroline Easom went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Jina Baffuto also had two hits.

Lexi Gray had a double. Jessica Grubbs drew three walks.

Airline scored all four of its runs in the fifth inning, overcoming a 1-0 deficit.

The Lady Vikings (9-2) extended their winning streak to seven.

At Benton, Sophia Livers went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Olivia Oliphint went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and five RBI.

Laci Hedgepeth went 2-for-2 with a double. Tayler Gonzalez smacked a home run. Anna Claire Kratzer and Kennedy LaPierre had one double each.

Madison Wells got the win.

Benton, which has won six in a row, improved to 7-3.

Airline and Benton are both scheduled to play in the Ouachita Parish tournament Friday and Saturday.
