High school softball: Airline, Benton, Parkway win


The Airline Lady Vikings, Benton Lady Tigers and Parkway Lady Panthers posted victories Tuesday.

Airline defeated Ruston 11-1 at Airline, Benton downed Claiborne Christian 21-14 at Claiborne Christian and Parkway edged North Caddo 16-13 at North Caddo.

Elsewhere, Haughton dropped a tough 5-4 decision to Ouachita Christian in eight innings in Monroe. It was the Lady Bucs’ third one-run loss.

At Airline, Jina Baffuto went 3-for-3 with a home run and triple.

Emily Rachal went 3-for-4. Paige Marshall and Lindsey Marcinkus both went 2-for-3.

Rachal also got the win. She struck out six.

Airline (4-1) hosts Haughton (1-5) in a District 1-5A opener at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

At Claiborne Christian, Benton had 16 hits in the game with a football-like score.

Sophia Livers went 3-for-4 with a triple and one RBI. Piper Stephens went 3-for-5 with a double. 

Kennedy LaPierre went 2-for-3. Meaux Carroll and Megan Risher had doubles.

Ava Defee got the win.

Benton continues non-district play Thursday at Stanley.

At North Caddo, Parkway evened its record at 1-1 with the victory.

The Lady Panthers visit Caddo Magnet Friday at 6.

At Ouachita Christian, Haughton led 4-1 after five innings. But Ouachita Christian scored three in the bottom of the fifth to tie it. 

The game went into extra innings tied at 4. The Lady Eagles ended it with a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth.

Brooklynn Bockhaus went 3-for-4 with a double to lead Haughton. 

Ella Vickers had a two-run double with two outs in the top of the third that gave Haughton a 3-0 lead.

Ariana Mathews and Sara White both had doubles.

Dixie Williams struck out 12 in six innings and allowed two earned runs.
