High school softball: Airline, Benton, Parkway win

The Airline Lady Vikings, Benton Lady Tigers and Parkway Lady Panthers posted wins Friday in a tournament hosted by Airline and North DeSoto.

Airline defeated North Webster 12-9 at Airline, Benton downed North Webster 9-3 at Airline and Parkway defeated Minden 13-3 at North DeSoto.

Haughton came close to winning its first game. The Lady Bucs lost to Grant 5-4 in a tournament hosted by Southwood and Northwood at Southwood.

At Airline, Lady Vikings freshman Caroline Easom continued her hot start to the season, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Easom is batting .636 (7-for-11) in her first three varsity games.

Jessica Baffuto also went 3-for-5. Kourtnee White had two hits, including a triple, and three RBI. Maddie Ennis had two doubles and two RBI. Jessica Grubbs went 2-for-4.

North Webster scored five runs in the second and four in the third to take a 9-4 led. But Airline cut it to one with four in the bottom of the third.

The Lady Vikings (2-1) tied it in the fifth and then scored three in the sixth on White’s bases-loaded triple with two outs.

Hallie Saintignan had three hits, including a double, in Benton’s victory. Winning pitcher Sarah Koeppen had two doubles and four RBI. Makenzie Chaffin, Anna Claire Kratzer and Madi Simms had two hits each. Chaffin had two RBI.

The Lady Tigers improved to 3-0.

At North DeSoto, Maecy Ingram went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI to lead Parkway (3-0).

Allie Hunt had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Faith Ingles and Shelby Newman had two hits each.

Abbie Norcross pitched a six-inning five-hitter with six strikeouts.

The Airline-North DeSoto tournament concludes Saturday. Benton faces Parkway at Airline at 11 a.m. Benton and Airline face off at 5 p.m. Airline plays four-time defending Class B state champion Florien at 1. Parkway takes on St. Frederick at 3.

At Southwood, Haughton’s Lacey Dodson went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Savannah Salley had two hits.

The Lady Bucs led 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Grant scored three to win it.

Haughton plays Ruston at 10 a.m. at Northwood and Beau Chene at 1 p.m. at Captain Shreve on Saturday.
