The Airline Lady Vikings, Benton Lady Tigers and Plain Dealing Lady Lions advanced to the second round of the playoffs with victories Friday.
In non-select Division I first-round games, No. 13 seed Airline held off No. 20 West Ouachita 6-5 at Airline, and No. 19 Benton defeated No. 14 Chalmette 2-0 at Chalmette.
In another non-select Division I first-round game, No. 25 Haughton fell to No. 8 Hahnville 5-0 at Hahnville.
In non-select Division IV, No. 12 Plain Dealing defeated No. 21 Lakeview 13-3 in five innings at Plain Dealing.
At Airline, the Lady Vikings scored three runs in the first and three in the second then held off a rally by West Ouachita.
Down 6-2, the Lady Chiefs scored three runs in the top of the sixth. With a runner at second, Taylor Smith induced a flyout to center fielder Madalynn Shortridge to end the game.
Smith scattered nine hits with three of those coming in the seventh. She struck out nine and walked four.
Airline scored all three runs in the first with two outs. Haley Whiteside reached base on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on an error. Ainsley Hollis drew a walk. Tanesciya Thomas singled home Whiteside and courtesy runner Kyleigh Sauviac advanced to second.
Abby Hutson drew a walk, loading the bases. Smith hit a ground ball and both runners scored on an error.
Tatianna Frese led off the second with a double. Shortridge followed with a bunt single and Frese advanced to third. Shortridge stole second. She and Frese scored on a double by Ainsley Jones, giving Airline a 5-0 lead.
Whiteside reached on an error and Jones advanced to third. Whiteside attempts to steal second and Jones was able to steal home for the Lady Vikings’ sixth run.
Thomas and Frese both went 2-for-3.
Airline (18-11) will visit No. 4 East Ascension in the second round next week. The Lady Spartans received a first-round bye. West Ouachita finished 16-16.
At Chalmette, Bayleigh Moniz pitched a three-hitter. She struck out 15 and walked only one.
The Lady Tigers broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Olivia Livers and Makaylyn Lawrence led off with back-to-back singles. Moniz was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Maggie Landman’s one-out double to center scored Livers and Lawrence.
Moniz sat the Lady Owls down in order in the sixth and seventh, striking out five.
Madison Lodatto and Lainey Lafitte had one single each.
Benton (16-14) will visit No. 3 West Monroe in the second round next week. The Lady Rebels (24-8) had a bye in the first round. Chalmette finished 20-9.
At Plain Dealing, Neveah Fisk went 3-for-4 with a triple, double and three RBI. Sanaa Lyles went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Zakira Lewis, pitcher Sofie Green, McKenna Fisk and Emory Young all want 2-for-3. Brianna Newton went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Plain Dealing (16-6) will visit No. 5 Merryville in the second round next week. The Lady Panthers (19-4) received a first-round bye. Lakeview finished 7-17.
At Hahnville, Clara Shaffer had two of Haughton’s three hits. Reese Mayfield had one.
The game was scoreless through four innings. The Lady Tigers scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Haughton closed its season 16-19. Hahnville improved to 20-12.
