High school softball: Airline extends win streak to 10 with victories in Ouachita Parish tournament

The Airline Lady Vikings swept two games in the Ouachita Parish tournament Saturday.

Airline defeated Forest 16-6 in five innings then downed West Monroe 8-6. The latter victory avenged a 5-0 loss in the first game of the season.

Hanna Heng went 3-for-4 with two RBI against Forest. Lexi Gray went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI.

Allison Watson went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Caroline Easom went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Jina Baffuto had a double and three RBI. Starting pitcher Jessica Grubbs had two RBI. Kenzee Perry, who pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, had a double.

Paris Endris’ three-run home run gave Airline the 8-6 lead over West Monroe with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

Heng went 3-for-3 with a double.

Endris went 2-for-4. Gray hit a solo home run to pull the Lady Vikings within one in the sixth. She also had a double and finished with two RBI.

Easom reached base four times. She drew three walks and had a single.

Raelin Chaffin got the win. After West Monroe put runners at first and second with no outs in the top of the seventh, Chaffin struck out the next three batters to end the game.

Airline improved to 12-2 with its 10th straight victory. West Monroe dropped to 11-2.

Saturday’s games were the final two Airline or any Bossier Parish school will play until at least April 13.

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Friday that all K-12 public schools in the state would be closed until then as a response to the coronavirus situation.

Bossier Schools suspended all activities, including sports events and practices, until then.
