High school softball: Airline, Haughton, Benton get tournament wins

Airline, Haughton and Benton picked up victories in tournaments Saturday as the first week of the season came to a close.

Airline defeated Houston North Shore 8-2 and Cypress Woods 5-1 in the Pearland, Texas, tournament. The Lady Vikings went 3-1 in the tournament and are 4-2 overall.

Haughton defeated Castor 11-0 and Winnfield 17-4 in the Northwood tournament. The Lady Bucs went 3-0 in the tournament and are 4-1.

Benton defeated Converse 12-2 in the North DeSoto tournament. The Lady Tigers went 1-2 in the tournament and are 2-3.

Parkway lost to Castor 13-6 and Winnfield 4-3 in the Northwood tournament.

Paris Endris went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI in Airline’s five-inning win over North Shore. Meaux Carroll and Hanna Heng also had two hits. Five other Lady Vikings had hits.

Raelin Chaffin allowed two hits in four innings and struck out six. 

Lexi Gray went 2-for-2 with a home run, double and three RBI in the five-inning game against Cypress Woods. Endris had a double.

Chaffin pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

McKayla Burkart had two hits, including a double, in Haughton’s victory over Castor.

Brooklynn Bockhaus went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sierra Lingo and Briley Leblanc had two hits each.

Whitley Cannon pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts.

The Lady Bucs scored 12 runs in the top of the fourth and final inning against Winnfield.

Reagan Jorstad hit two home runs and had four RBI. Lingo went 4-for-4.

Madison Trujillo had a home run, double and four RBI. Bockhaus had a home run, double and two RBI.

Burkart went 2-for-3 with a double. Averi Phillips and Leblanc had two hits each. Holly Tony had a double and two RBI.

Cannon didn’t allow a hit in three innings and struck out four.

Sophia Livers went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and seven RBI in Benton’s win against Converse. Madi Simms went 3-for-3. 

Winning pitcher Madison Wells went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Olivia Oliphint had two hits.

Megan Risher hit a home run. Anna Claire Kratzer had a double.

Mikaylah Williams went 2-for-3 with a triple and double in Parkway’s loss to Castor. Caitlyn Havis went 2-for-3.

The Lady Panthers came close to winning their first game against Winnfield. But the Lady Tigers scored two in the top of the seventh to pull out the win.

Williams went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI.

Mackenzie Eason scattered seven hits and struck out five.
