High school softball: Airline, Haughton, Benton, Parkway get wins on final day of tournaments

Airline, Haughton, Benton and Parkway posted victories on the final day of tournaments Saturday.

Airline extended its winning streak to six with victories over Cedar Creek, 7-1, and Ruston, 6-1, in the Ruston tournament.

Haughton split games in the Ruston tournament, defeating D’Arbonne Woods 8-4 and suffering a tough 3-2 loss to Cedar Creek.

Benton ran its winning streak to four with victories over Claiborne Christian, 14-2, and St. Mary’s, 17-14, in the Choudrant tournament.

Parkway defeated Carencro 21-6 for its first victory of the season and lost to New Iberia 17-7 in the Acadiana tournament.

Three-time All-Parish shortstop Caroline Easom, a Louisiana Tech signee, had a home run, double and five RBI in Airline’s victory over Cedar Creek.

Lexi Gray went 2-for-4 with a double. Jina Baffuto and Jessica Grubbs had two hits each.

Starter Raelin Chaffin allowed one hit in five innings and struck out nine with no walks. 

Gray continued her very good day against Ruston. She had a home run, two doubles and four RBI.

Easom also continued to produce at the plate, going 2-for-3. Kenzee Perry and Hanna Heng had two hits each.

Chaffin pitched a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts.

Airline is 8-2.

Briley Leblanc went 3-for-4 in Haughton’s victory over D’Arbonne Woods. Brooklynn Bockhaus went 2-for-4 with a double.

Sara White hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth. She also had a sacrifice fly and finished with three RBI.

Reagan Jorstad had a two-run double in the third. Holly Tony pitched a complete game.

All runs in the Cedar Creek game were scored in the first two innings. The Lady Cougars scored all three of theirs in the second.

Jorstad went 2-for-3 with a double. McKayla Burkart went 2-for-3. Siera Lingo had two hits, including a double.

Averi Phillips hit a solo home run in the second. Whitley Cannon scattered seven hits and allowed no earned runs.

Haughton is 6-3.

Olivia Oliphint went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in Benton’s victory over Claiborne Christian. Pitcher Madison Wells went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and three RBI.

Sophia Livers also had three hits, including a triple. Tayler Gonzales had two hits, including a double.

Megan Risher had a home run and two RBI. Kennedy LaPierre had a double.

Oliphint smacked two more home runs, giving her four for the day, and had seven RBI against St. Mary’s.

Kate Boltinghouse went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI.

Anna Claire Kratzer went 3-for-5 with three doubles. Livers had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBI. Risher had a double.

Olivia Burns allowed four hits and two earned runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief.

Benton is 5-3.

Bella Edmonson went 3-for-3 in Parkway’s three-inning victory over Carencro.

Pitcher Mackenzie Eason went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI. Landry Legendre had two hits, including a double, and three RBI.

Tara Fontenot went 2-for-2 with three RBI. Megan Morway had two hits, including a double. Caellen Burr also had two hits.

Eason struck out six.

Mikaylah Williams had a home run, triple and four RBI against New Iberia.

Caitlyn Havis went 2-for-2 with a double.
