High school softball: Airline, Haughton, Benton win; Vikings host Lady Bucs in key 1-5A game Tuesday

The Airline Lady Vikings, Haughton Lady Bucs and Benton Lady Tigers posted victories Monday.

In District 1-5A, Airline defeated Southwood 10-0 at Southwood. In non-district games, Haughton routed Lakeside 23-0 at Lakeside and Benton downed Byrd 13-6 at Byrd.

Airline (20-3, 10-0) hosts Haughton (14-7, 9-1) in a key District 1-5A game Tuesday at 5:30. Airline can wrap up its third straight district title with a victory. Haughton can move into a first-place tie with a win.

This is the final full week of the regular season. Airline was No. 4 in the Class 5A power rankings released Tuesday. Haughton was No. 17.

The top 32 teams in the final rankings generally make the playoffs with the top 16 hosting first-round games.

In another District 1-5A game Tuesday, Parkway hosts Evangel. Benton (16-11) vists North Webster (9-8) in a non-district game.

Benton was No. 18 in the Class 4A power rankings.

At Southwood, Jessica Grubbs pitched a five-inning three-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Jessica Baffuto went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Jina Baffuto smacked two home runs and had five RBI.

At Lakeside, Haughton scored 13 runs in the fourth and final inning.

Thirteen Lady Bucs combined for 20 hits. Averi Phillips went 3-for-3 with a double.

McKayla Burkart, Alayiah Mingo, Reagan Jorstad, Brooklynn Bockhaus and Sierra Lingo had two hits apiece. Burkart had a triple and double. Mingo, Mia McWilliams and Katelyn Hall had doubles.

Bockhaus had four RBI and Lingo had three. Shelby Hensley pitched a one-hitter.

At Byrd, L. Baker went 3-for-5. Olivia Oliphint went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Anna Claire Kratzer went 2-for-3.

Emily Angelo had a double and three RBI. Winning pitcher Tayler Gonzalez had three RBI.
