The Airline Lady Vikings and Haughton Lady Bucs moved closer to earning shares of the District 1-5A championship with victories Tuesday.
Airline defeated Byrd 5-2 at Airline, and Haughton downed Captain Shreve 8-0 at Shreve.
The best the Lady Vikings (16-6, 5-1) and Lady Bucs (13-9, 5-1) can do is tie Natchitoches Central for first. The Lady Chiefs (17-7, 6-1) completed district play with an 8-1 victory over Parkway at Parkway.
In the other 1-5A game, Benton routed Southwood 14-0 in five innings at Benton.
Haughton and Benton (13-6, 2-2) are scheduled to complete their game that was suspended March 17 Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Benton, weather permitting.
Haughton leads 7-5 with with one out in the top of the eighth. If the Lady Bucs can keep the Lady Tigers from rallying, they will have a share of the title.
Airline visits Southwood (10-7, 0-5) on Thursday at 5:30. A victory will give the Lady Vikings a share of the title. Airline and Natchitoches Central were co-champions last year.
At Airline, Lady Vikings freshman Aleena Duran struck out 12 and also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Jina Baffuto had a double. Paris Endris, Natalie Sutton, Alex Knowles and Genavieve Howard all had hits. Hannah Hayes got an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
The victory was Airline’s seventh in a row.
At Captain Shreve, Ariana Mathews went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
Brooklynn Bockhaus had two doubles. Laney Dobrow had two hits, including a double.
Sara White had two hits, including a triple, and two RBI. Macey Schut and Ella Vickers had one double each.
Schut allowed just one hit in six innings. She struck out five and walked four.
Haughton is scheduled to play Cedar Creek on Thursday at 6 at home.
At Benton, the Lady Tigers picked up their fourth straight victory.
Megan Risher went 3-for-3 with two triples, a double and four RBI. Tayler Gonzalez went 2-for-2.
Sophia Livers went 2-for-3. Ava Defee pitched a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Benton is scheduled to host Minden Thursday at 6:30.
At Parkway, the Lady Panthers led 1-0 after four innings. But Natchitoches Central scored two in the top of the fifth and then pulled away with four in the sixth.
Parkway is scheduled to host Logansport on Thursday at 6.
