High school softball: Airline, Parkway win 1-5A games

The Airline Lady Vikings and Parkway Lady Panthers posted District 1-5A victories Thursday evening.

Airline defeated Captain Shreve 13-3 in five innings at Airline, and Parkway downed Byrd 13-4 at Parkway.

The Haughton-Benton 1-5A game at Benton was suspended with one out in the top of the eighth inning and Haughton leading 7-5. It will be resumed March 28.

In the other 1-5A game, Natchitoches Central stayed undefeated in district play with an 8-0 victory over Southwood. 

Natchitoches Central (12-6, 4-0) and Haughton (8-7, 2-0) are the only teams without a district loss.

Airline (9-4, 3-1) remained in third place. Parkway (4-4, 2-2) and Captain Shreve (8-6, 2-2) are tied for fourth. Benton (9-6, 1-2) is one game behind them in the loss column.

At Airline, Paige Marshall went 3-for-3 with a home run. Lindsey Marcinkus and Elena Heng also went 3-for-3.

Jina Baffuto had two hits, including a home run. Aleena Duran went 2-for-3.

Emily Rachal got the win, striking out four.

Airline is scheduled to play in the Pineville tournament Friday and Saturday.

At Parkway, the game was called with two outs in the top of the fifth because of lightning.

Mikaylah Williams hit two home runs in three at-bats and had three RBI. Chloe Larry also went 2-for-3 with a home run.

Kayleigh Driggers got the win.

Parkway is scheduled to play in the Stanley tournament Friday and Saturday.

At Benton, Haughton took a 5-4 lead with two runs in the top of the seventh. Benton scored a run in the bottom of the inning on Sophia Livers’ two-out double to tie it.

Laney Dobrow and Averi Phillips hit back-to-back home runs to give the Lady Bucs the 7-5 lead in the top of the eighth. The game was then suspended.

Haughton is scheduled to play in the Cedar Creek tournament Friday and Saturday.

Elsewhere, Bossier improved to 4-3 with a 12-9 victory over Booker T. Washington at the Lady Kats’ field at Rusheon. The teams were supposed to play a doubleheader but the second game was postponed.
