Hannah Hutson pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the Airline Lady Vikings downed the Captain Shreve Lady Gators 12-1 in six innings in a District 1-5A softball game Thursday at Shreve.
Airline improved to 16-6 overall and 9-1 in District 1-5A. Airline and Evangel Christian (17-4, 7-1) are tied for first in the loss column. Captain Shreve dropped to 14-10 and 5-5.
Elsewhere, the Benton Lady Tigers completed a very tough stretch of three games in three days with a 13-2 loss to Calvary Baptist at Calvary.
At Shreve, Maddie Ennis hit a home run, doubled and drove in three runs for the Lady Vikings.
Brooklyn Brandon had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Lexi Gray had two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Kourtnee White had a hit, walked twice and scored three runs.
All told, nine Lady Vikings had hits in the game. Airline had six hits in a five-run first inning, including Ennis’ three-run homer following back-to-back singles by Caroline Easom and Jessica Baffuto.
At Calvary, Benton’s Abby Kent went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Hallie Saintignan, Makenzie Chaffin and Madi Simms also had hits.
In the last three days, the Lady Tigers have played three of the top teams in the state — North DeSoto, Evangel and Calvary.
Two-time defending 4A state champion North DeSoto was No. 2 in the 4A power rankings released by the LHSAA on Monday. Evangel was No. 1 in Division I and Calvary No. 1 in Division III. Calvary won the Class 2A state title last season.
This season, those teams have a combined record of 55-10. In those games, Kent has gone 5-for-10.
