The Airline Lady Vikings snapped the Benton Lady Tigers six-game winning streak with an 11-5 victory Thursday evening at Benton.
Airline improved to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in district. Benton dropped to 9-2 and 1-1.
Airline’s Paige Marshall had two triples and five RBI. Jina Baffuto had two doubles.
Elena Heng went 2-for-3. Lindsey Marcinkus and Natalie Sutton both went 2-for-4.
Freshman Aleena Duran went the distance. She struck out 13 and walked only one.
Benton’s Christina Gegg went 2-for-4. Piper Stephens had two RBI. Megan Risher had a double.
Airline led 5-2 after five then scored five in the top of the sixth.
Sutton and Baffuto both singled in the inning. Heng and Paris Endris drew walks.
Marshall’s bases-loaded triple with one out gave the Lady Vikings a 9-2 lead. Emily Rachal scored Marshall with a groundout.
Airline returns to action Tuesday against Parkway at home.
Benton is scheduled to play in the Brusly tournament Friday and Saturday.
