High school softball: Airline splits games in Rapides tournament

The Airline Lady Vikings split a pair of games Saturday on the final day of the Rapides tournament.

Airline defeated Pitkin 9-1 and lost to Natchitoches Central 3-2.

The Lady Vikings (18-7) resume District 1-5A play Tuesday against Byrd at home. Airline visits Parkway on Thursday in its district finale. If the Lady Vikings win both games, they will have at least a share of the district championship.

Jessica Grubbs pitched a four-hitter against Pitkin. She also had a single and two sacrifices.

Eight Lady Vikings had hits. Maddie Ennis went 3-for-4 with a double. Kourtnee White went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Patty Pettway had two hits, including a double. Lexi Gray went 2-for-3.

Caroline Easom hit a home run and doubled against Natchitoches Central. Gray went 2-for-3 as the Lady Vikings finished with six hits.

Airline led 2-1 after six but the Lady Chiefs pulled out the win with two in the bottom of the seventh on three singles and a double.
