High school softball: Benton, Haughton win tournament games; Airline’s winning streak ends

The Benton Lady Tigers and Haughton Lady Bucs won tournament games Friday.

Benton defeated Mangham 21-3 in the North DeSoto tournament, and Haughton defeated Franklin Parish 14-8. in the Polar Bear Tournament hosted by Sterlington.

Elsewhere, Airline’s five-game winning streak ended with a 9-1 loss to 2022 non-select Division V runner-up Quitman in the Pineville tournament.

At Mangham, Emersyn Disotell went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and seven RBI.

Dylan Defee went 3-for-3 with a double. Audrey Stark went 4-for-4 with a double.

Ava Defee had two doubles and three RBI. Christina Gegg went 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Ashley Promes had two hits and three RBI. Olivia Livers also had two hits.

Ava Defee and Kayson Mills combined on a three-hitter.

Benton (3-1) continues play in the tournament Saturday. The Lady Tigers face Cedar Creek at 11 a.m. and Opelousas Catholic at 1 p.m.

At ULM, Kayleigh Goss went 5-for-5 with a triple and double. Carsyn Kizzia went 3-for-4 with a double.

Laney Dobrow went 3-for-5. Ella Vickers had two hits and three RBI. Dixie Williams had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI.

Charlee Prothro had a double and two RBI. Clara Shaffer had four RBI.

Williams went five innings for the win. Prothro allowed one hit in two innings of relief.

Haughton (3-2) continues play in the tournament Saturday. The Lady Bucs face West Monroe at 9 a.m. and St. Frederick at 11.

At Quitman, Airline had five hits. Lindsey Marcinkus went 2-for-3.

The Lady Vikings continue play in the tournament Saturday against Live Oak at noon and Alexandria at 2.
