High school softball: Benton, Parkway get district victories


The Benton Lady Tigers and Parkway Lady Panthers won District 1-5A games Wednesday.

Benton opened district play with a 13-1, six-inning victory over Byrd at Benton.

Parkway evened its district record at 1-1 with an 11-4 victory over Southwood at Southwood.

At Benton, Marissa Schoth went 4-for-4 with a triple and double. Piper Stephens also went 4-for-4. 

Sophia Livers went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Christina Gegg went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Tayler Gonzalez had a triple. Olivia Burns had a double.

Ava Defee pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts.

Benton (9-1) will take a six-game winning streak into Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. home district matchup against Airline (6-4, 0-1).

At Southwood, it didn’t take long for basketball stars Chloe Larry and Mikaylah Williams to make an impact on the softball field,

Three days after scoring 34 points in the Class 5A state championship game, Chloe Larry went 3-for-4 and had two stolen bases.

Mikaylah Williams, who was named the Gatorade Louisiana Basketball Player of the Year Wednesday, had a hit in her only official at-bat. She drew three walks and had four stolen bases.

Hayleah Thornton got the win and also went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
