High school softball: Bossier Parish 1-5A teams sweep district foes

Thursday was a great day for Bossier Parish District 1-5A softball teams.

The Airline Lady Vikings blanked Southwood 13-0 in five innings, the Parkway Lady Panthers routed Byrd 13-3 in five innings and the Haughton Lady Bucs dropped Captain Shreve 14-7.

In a non-district game, the Benton Lady Tigers fell to Ruston 15-4.

At Southwood, freshman Caroline Easom continued her torrid start to the season, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, two doubles and five RBI.

Sophomore Maddie Ennis, who has also been hot at the plate, went 3-for-4 with a double.

Jessica Baffuto had two hits and an RBI. Kourtnee White tripled and drove in two runs. Patty Pettway hit a home run.

Jessica Grubbs had a double and two RBI. Hannah Hutson allowed just one hit in four innings and struck out five.

Airline improved to 6-1 overall with its sixth straight victory and 3-0 in district.

At Parkway, Madelyn Elliott went 4-for-4 with two RBI in the Lady Panthers’ victory. Abbie Norcross had three hits, including a double, and three RBI.

Shelby Newman and Taylor Earnest had two RBI each.

Allie Hunt scattered five hits and struck out nine.

Parkway improved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in district.

At Captain Shreve, McKayla Burkart went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI in the Lady Bucs’ victory. Lacey Dodson went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Pitcher Shelby Hensley had three hits, including a triple, and two RBI.

Leah Hopson and Savannah Salley had two hits and one RBI each. Salley had a double. Lauren Edwards tripled.

Hensley allowed five hits and struck out four to pick up the win.

Haughton (3-5) has won three of its last four after starting the season 0-4.

At Benton, Olivia Oliphint went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI for the Lady Tigers (4-3). Abby Kent had two hits, including a double. Makenzie Chaffin went 2-for-3.
