Christina Gegg smacked two home runs as the Benton Lady Tigers defeated the Parkway Lady Panthers 12-1 in a District 1-5A makeup game Wednesday evening at Parkway.
The game was the final one in district play for both teams. Benton finished tied for third with Haughton, one game behind co-champions Airline and Natchitoches Central.
With their eighth win in the their last nine games, the Lady Tigers improved to 17-7.
Benton hosts North DeSoto on Thursday at 5:30. The Lady Tigers are also scheduled to play in the Southwood tournament Friday and Saturday before closing the regular season against Calvary Baptist at home Tuesday and North Webster on the road Wednesday.
According to GeauxPreps.com, Benton was No. 15 in the Class 5A power ratings before Wednesday’s victory. The top 16 in the final ratings host first-round playoff games.
Parkway finished 2-5 in district. That included one-run losses to Airline and Haughton.
The Lady Panthers (8-11) were No. 31 in the power ratings before Wednesday’s game. They are also scheduled to play in the Southwood tournament with games scheduled Monday at Converse, Tuesday at home against Stanley and Wednesday at Buckeye.
The top 32 teams in the final power ratings generally make the playoffs.
In Wednesday’s game, Gegg hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the third and a two-run shot in the fourth. Marissa Schoth smacked a three-run home run in the fourth to make it 12-1.
Gegg finished 3-for-4. Piper Stephens went 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Megan Risher went 2-for-3 with a triple. Sophia Livers went 2-for-4 with a double.
Ava Defee struck out nine. She allowed five hits and no earned runs.
