High school softball: Haughton comes up just short in season opener

The Haughton Lady Bucs fell to West Ouachita 6-5 in their season opener on a very cold Thursday afternoon at Haughton.

The Lady Bucs got off to a great start with four runs in the bottom of the first on Charlee Prothro’s grand slam home run.. They added another in the fourth.

West Ouachita rallied with four in the top of the fifth then added single runs in the sixth and seventh.

Haughton’s Carsyn Kizzia went 3-for-4. Prothro went 2-for-4. Brianna Benecke went 2-for-4. Dixie Williams had a double.

Williams started in the circle and went five innings. She allowed four hits, struck out seven and walked four. Prothro pitched the final two innings. She gave up one hit and didn’t allow an earned run.

Haughton is scheduled to visit Ruston Monday.

Parkway’s game at Northwood was postponed until April 15 because of the cold weather.
