High school softball: Haughton picks up first win on season’s second day


The Haughton Lady Bucs picked up their first win on the second day of the season, defeating Neville 7-1 Tuesday at home.

The victory came a day after Haughton fell to Evangel Christian 4-1 in its opener at home.

Airline and Parkway also had tough opening days. The Lady Vikings lost to West Monroe 5-0 at home and the Lady Panthers fell to Ruston 15-2 on the road.

Parkway also lost to 2019 Class 1A semifinalist Logansport at home Tuesday.

Haughton’s Madison Trujillo went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI against Neville.

Katelyn Hall had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Sierra Lingo went 2-for-4. McKayla Burkart had an RBI-double.

Whitley Cannon allowed four hits and struck out seven in five innings.

Lingo had two hits against Evangel.

Jina Baffuto had two of Airline’s three hits against West Monroe. Meaux Carroll had a double.

Caroline Easom drew three walks.

Raelin Chaffin, the Outstanding Pitcher on the 2019 All-Parish team, allowed four hits and struck out eight.

Parkway’s Mackenzie Eason went 3-for-3 with a double against Ruston. Elisse Nicholas had a double and triple. Caellen Burr went 2-for-2 with a double. Caitlyn Havis had a double.

Bella Edmonson had a double and two RBI against Logansport. Mikaylah Williams, moving to the diamond one day after Parkway was eliminated from the basketball playoffs, had a double. 

Eason also had a double.
