High school softball: Haughton picks up win over host team in Cedar Creek tournament


The Haughton Lady Bucs split a pair of one-run games in the Cedar Creek tournament Saturday.

Haughton lost to West Ouachita 10-9 and defeated Cedar Creek 7-6.

The Airline Lady Vikings dropped two games in the Pineville tournament, falling to Pineville 9-0 and Barbe 9-4. The latter was a rematch of last year’s Class 5A state championship game.

Haughton’s Brooklynn Bockhaus, Ella Vickers, Laney Dobrow and Macey Schut all hit home runs against West Ouachita.

Bockhaus went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Vickers also went 2-for-4, including a double.

Dobrow went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Kylie Small also went 2-for-3 with a double.

Haughton took a 7-2 lead into the seventh inning against Cedar Creek then held off a Lady Cougars’ rally.

Bockhaus went 3-for-4 with a triple, double and four RBI.

Ariana Matthews went 3-for-4. Schut smacked a solo home run. Sara White had a double.

Schut went the distance, allowing seven hits.

Haughton (10-8) visits Southwood on Monday.

Airline’s Paris Endris went 2-for-2 with a home run against Barbe.

Emily Rachal and Elena Heng had two hits each.

Airline (9-6) hosts Natchitoches Central Tuesday in a key District 1-5A game Tuesday. The Lady Vikings are 3-1 in district and the Lady Chiefs are 4-0. They shared the district title last year.
