High school softball: Haughton routs Byrd; Airline edges Parkway

The Haughton Lady Bucs and Airline Lady Vikings won District 1-5A games Wednesday.

Haughton defeated Byrd 15-0 in four innings at Haughton, and Airline edged Parkway 4-3 in eight innings at Airline.

In another 1-5A game, Benton fell to Natchitoches Central 4-2 in Natchitoches.

Natchitoches Central (11-6, 3-0) and Haughton (8-7, 2-0 are the only 1-5A teams without a district loss. Airline (8-4, 2-1) and Captain Shreve (8-5, 2-1) are tied for third. Benton (9-6, 1-2) and Parkway (4-4, 1-2) are tied for fifth.

At Haughton, Macey Schut allowed just two hits and walked none. She also went 3-for-3 with a double and five RBI.

The Lady Bucs had 13 hits. Kayleigh Goss and Averi Phillips had three each.

Brooklynn Bockhaus had a bases-loaded double that gave Haughton an 11-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Ella Vickers had a two-run double in the nine-run third.

Haughton visits Benton at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

At Natchitoches Central, Benton trailed 1-0 after four. The Lady Chiefs scored three in the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Tigers rallied in the seventh but came up short

Ava DeFee allowed just three hits. She struck out 12 and walked five.

Kennedy LaPierre went 2-for-2. 

Natchitoches Central’s Maddie Robinson struck out nine and walked two. Abbey Bevill hit a solo home run.

At Airline, the Lady Vikings’ Jina Baffuto went 3-for-5 with a triple and double.

Paige Marshall went 2-for-4 with a double. Lindsey Marcinkus and Natalie Sutton both went 2-for-4.

Emily Rachal struck out six in five innings. Aleena Duran struck out four in three.

Parkway’s Chloe Larry went 3-for-3 with a home run and triple. Avery Schoenborn went 2-for-4.

Hayleigh Thornton had 13 strikeouts.

Airline visits Captain Shreve Thursday and Parkway hosts Byrd. Both games start at 5:30.
