High school softball: Plain Dealing wins first-round playoff game after long road trip

The Plain Dealing Lady Lions traveled over 400 miles to the tip of the Louisiana boot for their non-select Division IV first-round playoff game Thursday against South Plaquemines.

They left as a winner. The No. 16 seed Lady Lions defeated the No. 17 Lady Hurricanes 17-13 at Roger Halphen Park.

Plain Dealing (10-13-1) will visit No. 1 seed LaSalle (30-3), which received a first-round bye, in the second round. South Plaquemines closed its season 7-10.

Plain Dealing trailed 10-8 after three innings then took the lead with five in the top of the fourth.

The Lady Lions went up 14-10 with one in the fifth. The Lady Hurricanes scored one in the sixth but Plain Dealing tacked on three more in the seventh.

Sanaa Lyles, McKenna Fisk, Nevaeh  Fisk, Nicole Adoremos and Ravin West all had three hits. Sophie Green had two. Nevaeh Fisk had a triple. Katie Green, West, Sophie Green and Lyles all had doubles.

Sophie Green pitched 1 2/3 innings and Katie Green 5 2/3.

No. 17 seed Haughton (18-15) visits No. 16 Natchitoches Central (13-15) in a non-select Division I first-round game Friday at 5 p.m. The Lady Chiefs defeated the Lady Bucs 5-0 in their District 1-5A game April 2.

No. 21 seed Parkway (14-9) travels to Gonzales to play No. 12 East Ascension (17-12) in another non-select Division I game Saturday at noon.
