High school softball: Sutton’s two home runs help Airline upset Chalmette in 5A first-round game

Natalie Sutton smacked two home runs as No. 19 seed Airline upset No. 14 Chalmette 6-4 in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs Saturday in Chalmette.

Airline (19-12) will play the winner of Monday’s game between No. 3 Walker (28-4) and No. 30 Southwood (19-9) in the second round.

Sutton finished with three RBI. She was also intentionally walked twice.

Emily Rachal pitched four scoreless innings with four strikeouts out. Aleena Duran entered the game in the fifth with the score tied.

Paige Marshall went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Elena Heng also went 2-for-4.

Jina Baffuto and Paris Endris had one hit each.

Lindsey Marcinkus scored the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.

Chalmette finished 20-7.

Benton and Haughton are scheduled to host first-round games Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers (19-9) face No. 18 Dutchtown (17-14) at 4 p.m. The Lady Bucs (16-12) plays No. 17 Southside at 5.

Parkway (9-13), the No. 32 seed, visits No. 1 Pineville (31-2) at 5 Monday.

Plain Dealing (4-5), the No. 20 seed, visits No. 13 Northwood-Lena (10-19) in a Class 1A first-round game at 4 Tuesday.
