High school softball: Tough day for parish teams


Friday was a tough day for Bossier Parish softball teams in area tournaments.

Airline fell to Leesville 4-3, Benton dropped a 9-7 decision to Mangham, Haughton fell to Cedar Creek 7-2 and Parkway lost to Quitman 8-6.

Leesville scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings and then won it with a run in the eighth, ending Airline’s six-game winning streak.

Hannah Hutson went 3-for-4 with an RBI double. Caroline Easom, Maddie Ennis, Jessica Grubbs and Patty Pettway all had two hits. One of Grubbs’ hits was a double.

Airline dropped to 6-2.

Hallie Saintignan went 3-for-4 with a double in Benton’s loss. Sarah Koeppen had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Makenzie Chaffin and Anna Claire Kratzer had two hits, including one double, each.

Olivia Oliphint hit her second home run in as many games. Benton dropped to 4-4.

Courtney Garrett went 2-for-3 with a double in Haughton’s loss. Leah Hopson had a two-RBI double.

Haughton fell to 3-6.

Quitman scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally past Parkway (6-2).

Allie Hunt went 2-for-3 and struck out five in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Maecy Ingram had a double and three RBI. Madelyn Elliott had a two-RBI double.
